Have I told you about TUT of the Universe?

I try to live my life in a good way. A way I am happy with, a way that other people are happy with (ie - I try not to hurt anyone, I am always kind and considerate and I like to be smiling and positive in all experiences). When I was diagnosed at 17 with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome I went on a roller coaster ride of asking 'why me'? I went looking for reasons, blaming everyone and everything left right and centre for my life.

Before I got sick I was an only child - a nice one, but a little self-centered around my life and my happiness and my career and my money etc. After being diagnosed with CFS and having loads of time to read I started to read books that made me learn about myself, about my body, about the power of my mind and about the fact everything I do, say and think has an impact on my life and the lives of people around me - and, of course, my environment.

I can't remember how many books I read. New age, philosophy, religion, good living etc etc. I was a walking new age library. I leant a lot in those years I was stuck at home sleeping and getting better (and, yes, we're talking years) - but the most important lesson I learned is to have faith something happens for a reason and the reason is usually good, but you don't necessarily realise it until hindsight gives you clarity.

I love TUT - A Note From the Universe. The emailed messages I get always make me pause and contemplate and remember those important messages I learned those many years ago. This is what I got today...

"When you think a new thought, V, entertain a new dream, or mentally choose a new goal, your thoughts "leave" you and go out - in every direction, to the farthest corners of the planet. They carry a life force all their own, like ripples created when a pebble is tossed into a pond.

You can't change this, V, but you can use it.

You rock,
The Universe"

PS: V, I really did try to think of everything.

Amen.

Art deco lady fabric...unironed, but just had to show!

Can you believe I forgot we had this piece? I set myself to enjoying the sunshine today - and to photographing as many fabrics as I possibly could. I have just downloaded them to the laptop - approx 320 photos with an average of 2-3 shots per fabric. Eeekkk...that means 100 fabrics are waiting for me back at work tomorrow :)

I got to the end of my tether and got into a tizz - got overworked and then tried to just motor on, not caring what the fabric was or what it looked like.

Thus, I have some hilarious shots of unironed fabrics. Ironing is not my forte, I can tell you!

This is a piece I forgot we had - it's a vintage late 60s or early 70s shiny polyester with a border print of this lady's face - the face is huge, around 30cm high, from memory. I love it - and am sure it will look so much better when I iron it. I remember th lady I bought if from years ago explained to me that it's a famous art deco face...it looks more hippie 60s to me - but if anyone knows otherwise let me know...

Have a great week all!

Yes, we do buy vintage fabric :)

It's a question we get almost daily :) - so we thought it high time we answered it...

Yes, we most certainly do buy vintage fabric - in large quantities or in small quantities. We buy online and at private viewings - whether it's a personal stash or an estate sale. We prefer patterns over single colour as they are much easier to photograph for the online market and we prefer cottons as they are more versatile for our buyers. Having said that, we buy literally anything as long as it's genuine vintage (made before 1980s) and it's of good vintage quality - ie, not many marks etc...

We have been thinking of offering a type of service for people who have vintage fabrics but who don't want to sell it to people like 'us' (meh), but who would prefer to offer it for sale on our website and for a price they are happy with. If you are interested contact us - there would be a percentage we would have to charge and postage to the buyer would be covered by you, but I'd be more than happy to discuss possibilities...

Birdie fabric is divine, isn't it? From Sweden and hopefully going up on the website tomorrow or over the weekend...

Do you like our new little avatar/advertisement? Cute, isn't it...

We shall be starting the first Wednesday night sale tomorrow night. We shall choose a selection of fabric to go on sale, with various savings to be had. Don't forget - postage is free Australia-wide, too!

So - we've decided the fabrics shall go on sale on Wednesday nights and be rotated each Wednesday to keep things all routine-like :)

Vintage fabric weekly sale...

We've decided to have weekly vintage fabric sales on the website - it's one of the parts of the website we always forget about...so this is one way we can keep a momentum on the fabric rotation while offering you great deals...

Ideally we want to put a selection of fabric on sale at the same time each week - say, same night, same time. Any preferences? Not Friday or Saturday - but perhaps Sunday is good or Tuesday perhaps?

Any ideas?

Sticking with what you want and need...

Do you get days when you're just so tired you just can't seem to beat it? Don't know what it is - maybe it's too much suger (ahem), laughter or my late nights catching up with me...either way, bed early and not even bothering to read...

Still uploading onto the website - the subscription newsletter I am producing daily is quite fun and it puts people right in touch with the new arrivals ASAP. I think it also motivates me to make sure we offer something new to look at as often as possible...but, then again, you may get sick of the emails :) - we'll see...

We bought an amazing piece of fabric today - an original 1950s atomic barkcloth with amoeba print. Totally rare and totally cool. Can't stop looking at it. It's like a newborn :). Even after all of this time - selling thousands of fabrics and surrounded by thousands more - I still get a thrill out of seeing and touching a gorgeous print.

I hope that never changes :)

Carlton Ware and Pt Lonsdale - the good, the bad and the ugly...

The day started out with exactly five cups of my favourite Carlton Ware coffee set that sits in our dining room. I know, I know - only five cups, but I am always living in hope I shall come across a sixth cup (I have all of the saucers). In a spin I decided to dust at 7.20am while Gabriel was having his breakfast and Logan was finishing his. Yes, I am nuts - but I seize opportunity when I can! I picked up the cups as I normally would and...

...now I have four cups. In one INSTANT Gabriel dropped something and Logan decided to throw his Spiderman bouncy ball in the kitchen and I turned...and dropped...and watched slo mo as my cup hit the dining table, the handle broke off and it slid to the ground, utterly dejected and broken. So, the day didn't start off that well at all...

...but it got better with a quick visit to the Surf Coast - Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale, in particular. We are making an effort to have as many family days as possible to relax and enjoy each others company...after our 'annus horribilus' we realise family time is very important.

So, after the Carlton Ware went off to crockery heaven we visited a piece coastal heaven and had a fabulous day :). It's so good to get away 'from it all' :)

Learning the art of a new digital camera...and a visit to the beach...

Sorry to all you folk waiting for shots of fabrics we have here - I am getting there! I had a really good play with my new digital camera today - lots of shots of the fabric out in the sun enjoying itself :) - thus far I am happy with the shots, so I am getting to customer requests tomorrow...

We had such a lovely day today. The weather is starting to break now it's Spring, so the sun was out and about today and it was quite warm. Lots of wind, though - the wind is a new thing here in the last 10 years, but the more our global weather goes out of whack, the more wind we have here. Sometimes they're huge winds, too...

I have lots to do with the remainder of the year. I am DETERMINED to get our stock up on the site. Determined, I say. So I am now starting to push myself to get as much fabric listed when I can (I procrastinate...really, really well...)...and I want to finish our herb garden, vegie patch and also do a 'front fence'. Can't decide what type of fence though - but a 'retro kitsch' one in keeping with the house is looking good - lots of rubble, little boulders, moss etc

I didn't procrastinate today but we did take some lovely time out and drove a big 10 mins to hit the beach. We only stayed an hour or so but gee it was a lovely time. The surf was up, the people were out and the kiddies had a great 'ol' time. Logan went dressed in his new Sportacus (Lazy Town) costume and thoroughly enjoyed getting it wet for Mum to wash :)

And on a wonderful note, dear Gabriel started to crawl today. He has been cruising all week and we thought he was going to walk instead of crawl but, no, he decided to start crawling around today. It must have been the beach air. It was his first time at the beach and he loved it :) Ate and slept, but loved it nonetheless...
