A series of little successes...

Photobucket

Life is like a series of little successes to me (hmmm...sounds like life is like a box of chocolates, but I don't agree with that). This week Syd, our dog, has been training up a treat, we've cleared our little courtyard coming off our main lounge in readiness for some patio work, I've updated our good ol' tax books, my back has stabilised enough to continue to get work done on it, we won $1500 in a competition (I think the old copywriter came out in me) and I've been helping friends whose lives have been a little grey of late.

The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting and it's Friday! Hurrah - happy Friday, peeps. I hope you have a bright paisley kind of day!

Positive influence

It's amazing what you bring into your life and the impact it can have on others. I had a hankering to watch the fabulous Doris Day in Calamity Jane a couple of weeks ago. The two inquisitive youngsters decided to join us watching the DVD. Move forward a couple of weeks and we now have Doris Day on high rotation in the car and at home, with both of the boys singing this song at the top of their boyish lungs.

Who woulda thunk it?...as 'Calam' would have said

Absolutely love :)

Sitting back and enjoying the fabrics...

Photobucket

I don't know why I want to do more, more and them more, more, more. I get frustrated when jobs aren't done. And when you own your own business I don't think everything is ever done on time. There is always something that has to be done - whether that is booking in more fabric, buying more fabric that has been offered, updating the books, cutting small packs etc. And you can never tell what a day is going to bring, to a certain extent. Like today - in between swimming lessons, a physio appointment and other little things, I knew we had enough time to complete the packaging and list more fabric. But NO said the universe. Lots of orders came through overnight - many Express Post - so there was no time to list fabric today. And that got me frustrated. And then more frustrated. Until, now, at 9.44pm, I am still wanting to drive myself to load more fabric onto the website. And more orders have continued to come in late today and this evening...with express post required, so they take all priority tomorrow.

Why oh why do we want to do more, more, more? Why can't we be just satisfied at the end of the day? I need to reflect upon being satisfied with the current success of the business instead of focusing on what needs to be done. I need to sit back and enjoy the fabrics (a la smell the roses).

I need to remember to love every aspect of our business, not just my favourite parts :)

Nope - it's not for me

Photobucket

Do you ever think there is not enough time? Not enough time to do this...and that...and then that! What if we are doing too much? Perhaps modern world expects too much of us...especially the modern woman. I have been trying to get great shots of two antique Japanese bolts I have...do you think I can? Not at the moment. Perhaps tomorrow. For now...I am thinking about how our bustling, hustling, 'get to somewhere now' modern lives doesn't SUIT the 24 hour day. But 24 hours is ALL we have to work with. I am so glad I realised that type of day wasn't for me. I much prefer a smaller day - with lots of time to relax.

It's the micro details, I think

Photobucket

I have been thinking a lot lately of everything being interwoven - lives, fabric, the weather etc. I love fabric weaves and the differences warp and weft can give. I was thinking along the lines that the happiness, satisfaction and general 'success' you feel you have in your life is from those 'things' or 'people' we weave our way into.

And then it hit me today.

It's all in the detail. It's all in the small details. It's not the weave itself, but in how you weave...how you get the effect is all about the way you do it. So I am now thinking one step further into my thoughts on life in general...that small details have the most resounding impact than the larger ones. Cause and effect - on the micro scale.

I'll try to explain myself better tomorrow :)

Yes, we have retro rocks in our heads

Photobucket

So much has been lived recently. So many days well lived. And so many days with back pain! Therefore, there has been much time on one of those Pilates thingies working my ass off to get my back into working order. You know the one Oprah had those many years ago that she lounged about on at various angles? Yep, well I'm now on one of those every day.

Luckily I only have pain when I am seated and when I get up from sitting - walking and doing other stuff is fine. So we've been out and about every day seeing this and that. Too much to really report - and, really, is it that interesting, anyhoo? But this is my favourite pic thus far. It takes me back to my Grandparent's old house (it isn't their house). This old house is at the National Wool Museum. The boys, the husbie and I walked, sat, talked on the old phone and generally 'lived' in this house for around 10 minutes of our visit. I think other visitors thought we had retro rocks in our heads, but we loved it.

I love old homes. I love the stillness in them. There is no stillness in new homes, IMHO.

It's a hint...wake up, Ness!

Photobucket

Well - lsat week I did my back in (again). Haven't been this bad since I was pregnant with Gabriel, so off to the physio/Pilates peeps I went today. My back is stiff - as stiff as a board, so the goal is to get it all working again properly. Why is my back like this? Cos I don't...*ahem*...move enough. So I have to move more. Oh, joy. Just another thing to fit into my day. In fairness to the physio, this has been a long time coming and I knew I should be treating my body with more respect. Unless I want to walk like an 80-year-old and be under 40 I'd best get fit, methinks! Sigh.

And now it's time for the baby bears...

Photobucket

School holidays is now upon us in Victoria - 'tis the best of times, 'tis the worst of times, as far as I am concerned. It's hard for the boys to play harmoniously for two weeks - not a day goes by when there's not high-pitched constant quarreling over toys, books, games, TV etc. And that means lots of noise and lots of toddler crying. And that means our patience flies out the window. So, the strategy is to keep them busy, do lots of new things and recharge everyone's patience and love batteries! I do love having the schoolie home, though...it's nice to spend more time with him as they grow up so darned quickly! (and that means I age quicker, too....bah!)
