Do you have the perfect home for this little man?

There is a story to tell with this little man (the knitted version - not the two little human versions modeling him). But we don't want him - and I don't want to donate him to op shops and I don't want to throw him away, either. As you can see he is made beautifully - by a lovely old-timer lady :) - and he has lots of detail to his little radio and hamburger on his head. I don't know why he is carrying a plug or the plunger (I think that's what they are!)...maybe it's just an old-timer clown thing?

We are looking for a loving home for him. If you live in Australia and think you've got the right person to look after this wonderful little man, please leave a comment detailing why you would want him by this Friday 22 April and I'll get my boys to choose the winner. Postage is paid - all you have to do is hug him when he arrives :)

More news on us to come - I just wanted to get this post up today!

And the vintage fabric scrap pack winners are....drum roll!

And the first winner is.....Ruby-Jo! Congratulations!

Her commend: I love scrap fabric because well...I love fabric. Scrap fabric forces you to think of ideas that you might not have come up with if you had a large piece of it.

And the second winner is...jodesmac! Congratulations, too!

Her commend: I (particularly) love scrap (vintage) fabric because i make kids t-shirts with a vintage look. I love creating a little bit of nostalgia with just a little bit of fabric, it goodness and cuteness.

I shall get in touch with both of you to get your details - or, if you read this first, feel free to email us :) - we hope you love your scrap packs!

Pink corduroy with velveteen feel - anyone want it?

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

This fabric doesn't really suit the Retro Age aesthetic but it's lovely fabric, nonetheless. We got it in an estate sale but I am thinking more modern - 80s, 90s?

It's not going on the website, but if anyone would like it let us know. It is 104cm wide x just over 2m long, super soft and medium weight - $15 including postage (it weighs almost 700g, so postage is the ye olde 3kg pre-paid satchel).

Announcing the winner of our store credit!

Photobucket

I used the wonderful Random.org and left it to the universe to choose a winner for our $20 store credit giveaway - and the lucky winner was Lea!

Lea said : i love vintage fabric because it inspires wonderment of what it might have been and who might have worn it.

Congratulations, Lea!

If you've got a couple of minutes read some of the wonderful responses to the line "I love vintage fabric because...." - they are all so special! Here are some below...

Carmel said: I love vintage fabric because it prompts threads of memories of a Marimekko-filled childhood.

Jenna Z said: I love vintage fabric because I get tired of seeing things made with the SAME fabrics that everyone can get at the quilt shop! Vintage fabrics are so unique because they are most likely the last few yards that have survived and you (YOU!) get to decide how to use it!

Miss Jane said: I love vintage fabric because it brings back such sweet memories of my groovy mum and aunties!

Nest said: I LOVE vintage fabric because it is both beautiful AND environmentally friendly. There is nothing more aesthetically pleasing than mid-century to 1970's prints. The bold patterns, the warm and rich colors, I love it all so much!

Anne said: I love vintage fabric because it reminds me of photos of my Mum way back when. How I wish she had kept some of that stuff.... Also reminds me of the crazy curtains we had that didn't match anything!

The line from Dixie is priceless:

I love vintage fabric because I was there and loved it when it was new!

So very true! It's a pertinent reminder that vintage was once new and highly sought after for break-through design - but I do think there is something wonderful about using something with a history...but that's just me!

Thank you for playing, everyone - stand by, as we've got some wonderful giveaways coming your way!

One of the lights of my life...

Business cards
Retro Age Vintage Fabrics business cards...our individual style :)

It's been a funny ol' time around here of late. I am not working at my peak at the moment so Justin is running around like a mad-man keeping the household and the business ticking over. It included cooking his first lamb roast this weekend. And it was magnificent. Boo.

Things are a little topsy-turvy again thanks to my recent health. I am ever so hopeful this horrid 18-month run of ill health shall stop soon. Now I have a heart arrhythmia - a nigh on constant one that, while 'harmless', makes me feel totally ill. I am missing every third beat and the heart whacks around the chest cavity on the fourth beat, keen to pump the over supply of blood. I don't like living with the whacks. Much prefer the tick tock kinda stuff. So this weekend I started some hardcore drugs - beta blockers - to reduce my heart beat to control those bloody whacks. Hasn't worked yet - just made me feel even more horrid.

In a bid to get my mind 'off the whacks and the no tick tocks' I set about making our business card 'cards' today. It soothed me. It was fun. Logan has always been the type of child who likes to keep close to one of us. This afternoon he sat next to me making me cards to feel better. He presented me with the one below, ever so proudly, and I promptly burst into tears. It is the most wonderful, wonderful card I have ever received. It is staying with me forever.

His card was the perfect tonic I needed to get through a whacking afternoon. He is my perfect antidote to sadness and fear. And I didn't even bloody know he could write some of those words! His language skills are moving along in leaps and bounds - for a six-year-old I am told he's tracking much higher...(insert proud Mum)...

And to cheer me up I am looking forward to giving away $20 of website credit to some lucky duck out there! If you haven't left a comment yet you have until Thursday to! Good luck!

PS. Have a wonderful, wonderful week, everyone! May the sun shine in your world...

Sunday giveaway 24 May - now up!

giveaway

The Sunday giveaways have been a blast - and they continue with another four today! However - the format has changed. Still free stuff - but instead of now offering it through the blog and getting myself all confused with addresses and payments etc I have now popped them all up on a new website category called 'Sunday Giveaways'. We have some satin (above) on offer...

Photobucket

And some antique Aussie fur (I think??) - I am no fur expert, sorry - but they are super soft and gorgeous and even though I am anti-fur I thought someone may like to use these in some craft etc??? I would hate to throw them away :(...we estimate the pieces to be around 1930s to 1940s...

Photobucket

Photobucket

We also have two vintage embroidered baby pillowcases - so darling! Amazing embroidery, too...

Photobucket

And lastly we got this lovely old nylon trim from a lady I used to go to school with and who is now one of Melbourne's (Australia??) most fab 50s style dress designers/makers...it needs to find a trim loving home!

All of the Sunday giveaways are here. Enjoy - and good luck!

As you can see these are lovely but just not our style! This giveaway is for two off-white/cream shabby pillowcases. The face is a crochet (machine or handmade I have no idea - I know nothing about this type of craft!) and the pillowcases are cotton.
