Audrey Lampe's embroidery and sewing
I am glad you liked reading the post on Audrey. As we were unpacking the rest of the fabric this afternoon Justin came across an old prescription repeat. Her name is Audrey Lampe :)
I am posting some picks of her work - at least, I am thinking it's her work. Apparently she was very talented. I wish you could see the intricacy of her work - the sewing and embroidery is amazing. I am starting off with an antique Christening gown. We have no idea how old it is...but it really is so lovely!
The second piece is an old unfinished apron. This particular piece is just so breath-taking. There are thousands of stitches - yes, thousands. The intricacy is just so beautiful.
The last piece is another unfinished apron - with a Pacific islander theme. Again, intricate embroidery.
Even the shading in the hair is amazing. Audrey's creative gift was amazing.
We have no idea what we're going to do with these pieces. But to think they would have ended up in the tip is very sad :(

Absolutely amazing work!
ReplyDeleteI am very glad you have Audrey's collection now.
OMG Vanessa imagine doing those hours of beautiful embroidery to then wipe your hands on it!! Can you imagine any body in this day and age doing that for such an underated, yet essential and functional garment. These are just beautiful. Helen would love to see these....
ReplyDeleteI am glad you like the embroidery, Miriam...
ReplyDeletePrue - I got Adrienne to forward the blog posts to Helen - can always pass the pieces on if she'd like to see them in the flesh :)
Hope you're well!
Cheers
