A Marimekko we don't really know - American Fabrics, 1963-1964

Photobucket

I was browsing some of my American Fabrics books and came across an amazing article on Marimekko - written in the Printex days in 1963-1964. I photographed the entire three page article for you to read and study - the designs are NOT what I would have thought Marimekko would have produced, I have to say. It's only towards the end of the article and the architecture designs that the famous design voice of Marimekko starts to come through.

  2. That certainly is the Marimekko I knew...I owned and wore out several dresses with the patterns shown on the models, and still have others in the attic, which I wear from time to time - to art openings, mostly. I actually worked at D/R in 1964 & 1965 and at D/R International in New York in 1966. Being in those stores influenced my view of art and design for the rest of my life, it was a brilliant education in color and form.

  3. Wow! I envy your past...I would love to have been around in New York in those years. Thank you so much for leaving a comment - to know these dresses are still around warms my heart...

    Cheers
