Textile beauty is everywhere...

Geelong Gaol

I am glad I took the weekend off, as this week has been busy, busy, busy! Thank you, lovely customers!

No matter where I go I always find old textiles - working with vintage fabrics has taught me to admire old pieces and their settings. Like this lovely lace curtain in the old Governor's residence at the Geelong Gaol. It would be as beautiful if you removed it from the window - but I think the true beauty of fabric is when it's used.

Black morgue humour, my style

I took a break from ye olde laptop machine this weekend - family time involved a trip to the local old gaol - Geelong Gaol - that closed decades ago. This sign tickled our fancy - the kids got a real kick out of it. This was the prison's morgue, as you can see...

A new arrival vintage fabric frenzy...hurrah!

I am a determined gal this afternoon! There's no such thing as a goal for Friday arvo to finish so you can get to enjoying ye olde weekend. This arvo I am in an uploading frenzy - my goal is to put all of the fabrics up that I have photograhed...hurrah! That means on Monday I can take shots of a fresh set...

New arrivals are here - enjoy!

These boots are made for limping...

We have a chicken with a limp. Laying - and limping - poor little Chook. It's amazing how much furry (or feathery) friends can make an impact on you in such short periods of time. I hate to see anything in pain - whether it's an ant, a chicken or a human. As far as I am concerned, all life is equal. Have I told you I talk to ants? Yes, I do. I do. If they are anywhere they shouldn't be (like in the kitchen, feasting), I ask them to leave and then give them 20 minutes. And I come back 20 minutes later and 9/10 times they will have gone. No joke.

Now I think you'll think of me a freak - but try it! Freaky is good sometimes - and it sure does beat killing ants...

Have a great weekend, all!

Does he love you?

Phew! This morning was a veritable runaround to dentist and othodontist - and now we're back here to catch up on work. Lots of packing - and some new cottons are going up onto the website, too! Don't you just love He Loves Me Not, as above? Yes - there is a He Loves Me on the fabric, too...very sweet, indeedy!

Antique 1920s cotton muslin in focus

We just couldn't say no to this antique fabric. It is a genuine 1920s cotton muslin - just 81cm wide (selvedge to selvedge). It is unused but the dyes have faded through the 100 years - that being said, we still think there is much to love about it! We are selling it by the fat quater for just $1.99 per piece - we're hoping this wonderful piece of history goes to some loving homes...

A change of tune - this is what age does to you!

We try and move with technology in this house - well, within reason. We don't get the latest gadgets like mini-mobiles or iPads (not yet, anyway) - but we do have a computer network, complete with server. This means all of our music can he housed on our computers and also on the server - so we can play it anywhere in the house. So we've been going through our CD collection of late, with a view to uploading on to the server and sending the CDs off to thrift/op shops.

I am amazed at how much of my 'beloved' music collection no longer makes my soul sing. No more Spiderbait, Live or other 90s rock - it just doesn't do it for me anymore. I still love Soundgarden, Smashies and Janes Addiction, though! I am turning to more classical, movie soundtracks (oh, Dr Zhivago, how I love thee!) and Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds/The Dandy Warhols style. And then there are specials - like Liza Minnelli 'Results'. I love it - produced by the Pet Shop Boys and her voice - it makes my heart sing...

What makes your heart sing? Is music a part of your life?

Embroidered mid-century evening fabric in focus...

I just put this fabric up onto the website - I just had to pop it on the blog so vintage fabric lovers could look at the detail that has gone into producing this fabric...

Almost done!

Phew! Most of the laces we have are now up on the website - I have put the bolts up, as well as the seperate remnant pieces for those of you who are after smaller pieces...now onto packing for the day and some more uploading later on - hurrah!

It's now windy and overcast here - I hope you're in the lovely weather, where-ever you are!

Life is as a woven fabric - lace?

I am putting a lot of old 50s and 60s lace on to the website today - and I also have a lot of 40s and 50s cottons almost ready to go up. Can you believe the site now has more than 800 seperate pieces on there? My goodness! Back to work, I go...

The chicken came before the egg...

Saturday was a big day for our household. Not only did we vote to elect a Prime Minister and a majority party to lead our country (don't ask), but we also received our first free range egg from our own little ! I wish you could have been there - it was like I had given birth all over again, such was the happiness bursting from us all! The lovely Chook (pictured below, photo taken by the two-yearold) gave us our first delicious bounty - I didn't get time to take a photo of the amazing yolk colour as the egg was devoured too quickly - note to self to take a photo of one soon! Thank you, Chook!

Vintage fabric new additions - Friday

These are the new arrivals so far for today - more to come!

It could have been so different today...

Victoria has been experiencing horrid weather of late - high and wild winds, strong and constant rains and it's been very bitter. We live in an area with established trees (it's a country town slowly merging with a large town - bah!) - lots of tall, beautiful eucalpytus trees. I love them. They house so many birds and smell beautiful in rainy weather. However, this is what we woke to this morning. We are so grateful the snap went in the other direction - if it had some towards us, our fence would have been cactus and we'd be spending this Friday very differently. Amazing how life can change in such the briefest of moments.

Some very special vintage fabric pieces...

I have 30 pieces of some special vintage fabric that is just about to go up onto the website. I couldn't help but show you some of my favourite photos and fabrics. These all come from the one estate collection and, as you can see, there are some rarities that have been well stored and loved for many years...

I am going to try and get up as many as I can today - the rest will be going up onto the website (hopefully) tomorrow....phew!

Hope you're having a great day!

Cheers
Vanessa
