Vintage fabric giveaway #1 - Italian modernist 60s silk

Photobucket

I figure if you're going to get on this 'giveaway on your blog' bandwagon I may as well start with a stunner! Our first vintage fabric giveaway is for this divine vintage 60s fine silk twill, manufactured in Italy for the European couture market.

This shot above shows the fabric at half width. Sorry about the creases -this piece is from my own collection and my own stash isn't as neat as what it should be! *gasp*. The giveaway is for a 50cm length cut, full selvedge to selvedge width.

If you would like to win this fabric simply leave a message on this post with a brief description of your favourite vintage fabric. If you don't have any then let us know what your favourite fabric design would be.

I don't really get a lot of comments on this blog - lots of lurkers, I think! - so I'll leave this giveaway open until 8pm Tuesday 21 April (Australian eastern standard time) and I'll either do that random.org thing or get our eldest son to think of a number in his head and if it's your message 'number' then you'll get this divine fabric...

And, yes, this giveaway is open to everyone, everywhere :)...enjoy!

COMMENTS CLOSED - THANK YOU!

  1. My favourite vintage fabric? Hmmmm so many to choose from. How could I pick one? Actually there was a fab shop here in Christchurch called Cherry Blossom (they have recently closed but are available on line) and they specialise in goods made from vintage kimono fabrics. Part of their closing down stages saw some clearing out of some imperfect vintage kimono fabrics. I found and bought a fantastic purply pink with apple green and cream swirls through it. It is about 1.5m long & appox 30cm wide. It is hanging on my bedroom wall. I love it. Every time I see it, it makes me smile...... Isn't that what vintage fabrics should do? Do you think this could be another such fabric? Cheers for the give away. So generous and exciting.

  2. Hi, I don't have many true vintage fabrics at the moment, only some beautiful silks I bought in the eighties in Indonesia. There is a fabric on your website which I saved as a favourite though, that I really love. it's the Large Scale 70s Indienne Retro Floral Gree Ogee. I just love the colours and the design. Your giveaway is a great idea. I always enjoy looking at your latest fabrics. Carolyne

  3. Wonderfully generous of you Vanessa!
There's a 60's(?)style barkcloth I remember lying on when I was a kid- olives, ochre, black, big motifs, I'll know it when I see it!

  4. i think my fave might be the kind of fabrics used for nursery prints and child-like designs. maybe for the same reason as zofia, I rembember them from my own childhood.

  5. I love vintage curtains; I have 2 huge pieces of orange, red and peach Marimekko-style floral fabric. And luckily (I think) they're stained and faded and torn in places, so I have no qualms about cutting them up to save the good bits.

  6. i love a good paisley, something with enough detail and colour to get lost in. Like the green/blue/teal/cream piece i found tucked in the back of the linen cupboard at home - no idea where it came from. It became my first skirt that i sewed myself.
Am excited how easy it was and am itching to sew more unique pieces.

    cheers

  8. Wow. I just stumbled upon your website for the first time tonight. I've been searching the web all weekend looking for vintage fabric from the late 1950s - mid 1960s. I have this memory of a skirt my mom wore when we left the city and spent the day at the ocean. The fabric was cotton with small green turtles on a white background! Happy memories. Thank you.

  11. I love the 60's/70's period designs. Mod, bright, hippie, psychedelic. It's great to make items with these, so many people gravitate to them - touching and sometimes reminizing!

  12. I'd usually say an incredibly psychedelic yet clean paisley, but recently I'd been into mod op-art italian silk...
and this fabric is just brilliant!
    I NEED IT.
    even the selvages look appetizing!

  13. I adore those huge flower prints with bold colours ie black outline of yellow/green/blue petals or orage.yellow with huge stamens. Although having said that I notice that my heart rate increases as I search the whole 60's section, in a manner I would imagine a gambler feels???!!!! Scary.
